Spring is Coming is a band composed of members born in the tail end of the 90’s. As such, they feel numb to the rapid industrialization of the world nowadays.
Ping San, Cong Cong, and Long Long are people who have been dreaming of their futures together since high school. Ping San and Cong Cong have been friends with each other for more than ten years. Ever since they were little, they have played in bands, studied, and went to temples together.
The bassist, Liu Ya Bo, enjoys the silence and finds safety in the protective quality of dreams.
“We are all chasing a dream that seems so unrealistic because we are all ‘dreaming’. Therefore, we are Spring is Coming."
Behind the Music is a Q & A series that follows mainly new bands in efforts to show the lives behind the music-making. This issue of Behind the Music features Spring is Coming to talk about some fan-favorite questions!
Meet The Band
Ping San 《平三》- (Lead Vocals)
For first-time listeners, Ping San recommends their track “Uncertain Free Fall”《不确定的自由落体》. His bandmate Long Long agrees!
He enjoys the simple joys of life, like watching "Teacher Bobo (Xiao Bo)" dance backstage, making different kinds of healthy porridge, and petting his dog. His optimism and love of the band are evident as he believes that the power of their music will bring listeners hope.
Cong Cong 《聪聪》– Drums
When asked about their plans to tour Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan next year, Cong Cong replied:
"I hope our music can bring them happiness so that they can feel happy and free in our music."
Instead of viewing difficulties for the band as troublesome, he prefers to see them as avenues for improvement and motivation to work harder. He's comfortable in his own skin and combats stress with running, cooking, and most of all, music. The drummer suggests their track “The Wind in the Mountains《山里过堂风》," because of it's free, relaxing, and pleasant qualities.
Long Long 《龙龙》– Guitar
Although Long Long recognizes the financial struggles of being in an indie band, he hopes that their songs can enrich listeners' lives by introducing them to new music. One of his favorite memories with the band was from when:
"Teacher Bobo (Xiao Bo) [was] drunk after one glass hahaha!"
Xiao Bo 《小波》– Bass
For Xiao Bo, music is about making sure that Spring is Coming's audience feels cared for, especially since most of them are young adults. He even recalls this interesting experience at a concert:
"When we were in Shanghai touring, a fan rushed to the stage next to me and accidentally ripped off my bass cord... I was so stunned, and the dumb expression of my face was recorded by the livestream. I thought that was quite funny."
Similar to his other bandmates' love for cooking, he enjoys inviting three to five friends over for a delicious home-cooked meal. He finds comfort in company which makes his answer to this question very compelling:
"If you have the opportunity to exchange life with any person or fictional character in the world for a month, who would you choose?"
"I would choose the virtual character One Punch Man to experience how lonely invincibility is!"
