At the beginning of the year, Soul Bus released a new EP called "The First Stop." It includes two new songs and their re-recorded debut works. Their first performance of the year will be in Guangzhou, China on Saturday, June 6, 2020.
Since its establishment in 2016, Soul Bus has maintained a limited social media presence. Despite this, their music holds the power to attract listeners and make them want to know the moment they start playing. It was initially difficult for MusicDish to reach out to Soul Bus, but when we finally did for the music video… contagious laughter ensued!
Behind the Music is a Q & A series that follows mainly new bands in efforts to show the lives behind the music-making. This issue of Behind the Music features SoulBus to talk about some fan-favorite questions. Click here to check out the full video of their interview!

Q&A
If you had to choose a song to introduce your own band to a first-time listener, which one would you choose and why?
Shao Ji: “Firefly” 《流萤》
Jun Xian: If you haven’t listened to “Firefly”《流萤》yet then I choose “Wedding Candy”《流萤》《喜糖》haha
A Cong: It must be “Comet”《彗星》
Yu Xi: “First Snow”《 初雪》
A Biao: “Comet” 《彗星》
Have there been any conflicts in the creative process? How do you handle them?
A Cong: Conflict? We don’t have any.
Yu Xi: No.
Jun Xian: We work very harmoniously when we were writing, except when the drummer plays badly; we could change the drummer’s arrangements.
A Biao: No... We could change the drummer.
Shao Ji: The drummers and other members may have musical contradictions.
A Cong (the drummer): Usually I am the one being “handled.”
Shao Ji: Everyone’s techniques are handled one by one.
If you have the opportunity to switch lives with anyone in the world for a month, who would you choose?
Shao Ji: I strongly request that the drummer switch with a beautiful woman. I want to exchange with Trump to liberate all of humankind.
Yu Xi: Dragonborn from Skyrim.
A Biao: Sleeping Beauty when she’s sleeping so I can sleep for a month.
Jun Xian: Debussy.
A Cong: Li Yunlong, because I want to carry an Italian canon.
How has your living environment in the city or university affected your music?
Shao Ji: It didn’t really except made it easier to form a band.
A Cong: It didn’t.
A Biao: I live close to Guangzhou, which makes it easy to watch shows.
Jun Xian: It has little influence on creating music, but rather college has helped me gain more musical experiences.
Yu Xi: In college, I listened to so many different kinds of music, so when I’m making music, I am easily influenced by other bands that I like.
What is your least favorite thing or struggles with the band?
Shao Ji: When we have no money to record.
Jun Xian: When we have no money to buy equipment.
A Cong: When we have no money to mix.
A Biao: When I have no time to practice piano or no money to buy equipment.
Yu Xi: I gave up a midiplus job because of the band having too many different rehearsal locations.
Shao Ji: Isn’t it because midiplus didn’t accept you that you came back to rehearsals?
Yu Xi: No, I chose to stay. Don’t even talk about it, I regret it more and more.
Shao Ji: I can’t carry this pot. (“carry the pot” is Chinese slang for “don’t blame me”)
A Cong: We can’t carry this pot.
What's an interesting memory you have of the band?
Jun Xian: Every show we have is super interesting because we go to so many different places.
A Biao: No, this is a very boring band
Shao Ji: I agree with the above.
A Cong: I can’t think of anything.
Yu Xi: Every time we record, I am very impressed because we pack everything into the weekend for recording and afterwards it feels like a vacation.
Shao Ji: Skipping work is fun, always skipping work is always fun.
