“The Other Mountain”, is from the Railway Suicide Train's second studio album, “Mainland”, which features some of the songs that they wrote from 2017-2019. Compared to their previous recordings, the songs on this album are more experimental and artistic.
The band leader Zhi Shen had spoken about the background of the song in an interview:
"The Other Mountain" is perhaps the most upbeat song we’ve ever created. When I wrote this song, I had just moved to Jilong Mountain in Hangzhou; at that time, I would listen to some native Taiwanese folk songs and some African guitar music while working at home. If I'm not mistaken, the motivation for this song was generated when we first rehearsed at Jilong Mountain, this is a song about turning points.
"The Other Mountain" is more melodic than any other song on this album and is really catchy when you first listen to it.
Railway Suicide Train was formed in the summer of 2012 in a small town in Zhejiang province. The band’s line up consists of band leader Zhi Shen (vocal, guitarist), Qiang Xiao (vocal, bass), Wen Li (vocal, drum). As an outstanding psychedelic-rock/dream pop band, they’re getting popular among many indie music fans these days. People started knowing the band through their EP “Wake Up from Foolish Dream” in 2014. In 2016, the band released its second album “Aftermath.”
