Lovebug: Six-eyed Dragonfly《六眼蜻蜓》 by Backspace退格

Earlier in March this year, Backspace退格 released their album Colony of Ants. Their second track "Six-eyed Dragonfly《六眼蜻蜓》" is about one's ecstatic love and how great their desire weighs so much that they would become a dragonfly to be with their beloved.

The song opens at a brisk rhythm and progresses layer by layer. Once the vocals come in, the song is brought together, giving life to the dragonfly. The emotions are slowly laid out, beginning with the love that heats up like the sun. The dazzling dragonfly gains momentum as the bass clarinet blares and listens for the shakers to slow down. The bass clarinet then slowly guides the dragonfly to finally land with its golden wings stretched out.

In order to be with you, I would like to abandon the human form and become a light dragonfly. Stop on your chest, breathing up and down with your heartbeat.

Backspace was founded in Beijing in the summer of 2016. All coming from a small city in Southern China, the band consists of four members: Zheng Dong, lead singer; Ahui, guitarist; Guagua, bassist; and Mao Te, drummer. The band's attitude mirrors the youth with a sensitive temperament in this digital age. They deeply integrate in their music the confusion and refusal to enter the corrupted adult world.

Known for their frenetic energy in live performances, their sounds and styles include post-punk, new psychedelic, and krautrock. With each wave of new music and the opening of each musical journey, they have their ears of tempered practice to welcome all uncertainties wherever they go.
