Metal-core and Peppa Pig: An Empty City's Creative Process

Updated: Jul 21, 2021

Song Title: "Added"

Artist: An Empty City

Album: "Who's World" 《谁的世界》

Release time: April 1, 2020

In An Empty City's recent album 'Who's World"《谁的世界》, released on April 1st, "Added" is a song that stands out. Here is what An Empty City had to say about the unique circumstances that brought about the completion of this track:

"To begin with I would like to introduce our creative process. First, the drummer finishes the drum tracks for the whole song and at the same time, we determine the general emotional direction. Then, the two guitarists fill in the rhythms according to our decisions. Finally, the lead guitarist completes the rest of the song, giving the song an atmosphere and vibe.

Affected by many different atmospheres and influenced by a wide variety of bands, An Empty City often avoids completing songs in big “blocks” or “chunks”, so that they can keep the toughness and weight of the song. Instead, they choose to follow the emotions of the song and go with the flow.

“Added” was originally a song for a new album, but in the creation, we got sidetracked. It was supposed to be a very serious metal-core song, but after the additions of our lead guitarist, we accidentally used the trumpet sounds and added Peppa the Pig's voice and ended up loving it!"

Whether it’s the song title or MV, the release date, or how the song was created, it makes people feel the creativity and humor of An Empty City’s music.

"Although a serious version was later created, we still kept the first draft we made. We decided to give this song to everyone as an April Fool's Day gift, where even the name "Added" was also a reverse version of "Peppa”.

The members of An Empty City have changed many times, but the band continued to maintain the "Never Too Metal" spirit.
