Song title: “Sickness” 《病怏怏》
Artist: Ci E Le 《瓷饿了》
Release Date: March 27, 2020
Ci E Le is an indie and rock singer, and the current lead singer and guitarist of the band, FancyWall (Check out FancyWall's Behind The Music video to learn more about the band!). Currently living in Beijing, China he sometimes dabbles in folk music and other times in post-rock without knowing exactly what the styles are.
In 2019, he released the first personal post-rock album "Collapse of the Paper Bridge II" 《纸桥崩塌贰》. Nowadays, he is still studying in the United States.
Ci E Le describes his recent release in connection with current world affairs and racism towards Asians, especially in the US:
"This song was written in March 2020 during the pandemic. I was just abroad when I was planning to return to China because of COVID. But for various reasons, the United States has always treated Asian people including me as a 'synonym' for the virus. There were many people from China who studied abroad but were treated with the mentality of 'returning to China to return the poison.' "
This song was written during the period of quarantine and isolation after he returned to China as an international student.
"'Sickness' is also a kind of self-deprecation, describing that I looked at myself from the perspective of a discriminator and also expressed my entanglement in all aspects of discrimination, even though I was very healthy."
Ci E Le's message to his fans and listeners around the world is simple:
"Hello everyone, I am Ci E Le. As an international student, I have just returned home. I am currently quarantined at the junction of Tongzhou and Yanjiao in Beijing. I still have half of the quarantine period left and it has been very helpful for me to quit smoking. This song is called "Sickness". The purpose of sharing it is to tell you that I am not sick, and I am very healthy."
