“Ghost in the Black Sun”, is from the Dirty
Moon’s latest album “Neo Rock by Future” that was released in August, 2020. Proving itself to be very symbolic for the band, “Neo Rock” is a new term/genre created by Dirty Moon, which implies a genre that is based on indie-rock with a mixture of dubstep, breakbeat, blues and future bass adding on to it.
Dirty Moon describes the theme of the “Ghost in the Black Sun” in the album:
Every night, we create a better version of ourselves.
With the dark light reflected by the moon, we stayed up late, had our heads in the clouds. We are all the children of the dark. To enjoy. To love.
Like many other songs from Dirty Moon, “Ghost in the Black Sun” is also a really upbeat “neo-rock” song with their typical dubstep/breakbeat elements. The tempo is very static, and the structure is simple which has two lines repeating throughout the song “I am the ghost in the black Sun. I get rid of the puppet that held your gun.” Because of that, the song is exceptionally catchy and you can probably sing along with it after you listen to it once.
Dirty Moon was formed in 2019 in Beijing by three very experienced musicians, Lei (lead singer, guitar), XiaoXiao (bass) and MengMeng (drummer). Their central idea and goal for the band is to distance themselves from all set definitions of music. They would break the boundaries that have been set and never play by the rules. The rebellious mindset that the three of them share allows them to truly create more inspirational and new music for the crowd. Their slogan is also “Neo Rock By Future!” and this truly symbolizes their desire and excitement of exploring “Neo Rock” in China.
